PAKISTAN - RUSSIA - BONDS

                                         RUSSIA - PAKISTAN

  • This would be the first-ever joint military exercise between Russia and Pakistan
  • Exercise will be held in  eastern Punjab province of Pakistan
  • According to the Russian media TASS, around 70 Russian troops arrived in Rawalpindi in Pakistan for the military exercise named "Friendship2016"
  • Further Tass also quoted that The Russian and Pakistani military will share their experience and employ  teamwork in fighting in mountainous area particularly destroying illegal armed group
  • Exercise between the two cold war enemies (importantly Afghan war) is being held amid speculations that it would be cancelled due to the terrorist attack in Indian base camp in Uri- Kashmir
  • Moscow rests the Indian panic by saying scheduled joint exercise would not concern India, as they are not conducted in the disputed areas of POK.
  • Mr Putin in 2010 said that - " Russia does not have any military cooperation with Pakistan because we bear in mind the concerns of our Indian Friend"
  • But Russian mIlitary cooperation has been substantially increased with Islamabad                                                                                                                                               Signing deal on 4 Mi-35M attack helicopters last August.                                                                                                                                                                                           Further, Islamabad is considering the purchase of advanced Russian fighter planes.

  • Joint military exercise between India and Russia Indira 2016 was flagged off in Vladivostok in Russia on Friday. To be held between 22 September and 02 October
  • No reactions from Indian side on the joint drill of Russia and Pakistan till now, it would be evident to see the reactions of such drill,
  • Would it lead to bad India-Russia relations or it would become deeper when in the next month Mr President Vladimir Putin will visit India?
  • Although Russia has strongly condemned Uri attack
