WAR HEROES


HAVALDAR IMLI AKUM


This is the story of the time when India was fighting its 4th war with Pakistan - THE KARGIL WAR.

EARLY LIFE.

Born - 25th July 1976

Village - Chuchuyimpang in Mokochung Nagaland.

His father was a government employee and his mother was a homemaker, he has 4 brothers and a sister, 2 of his brother is in Nagaland police one in civil services and another one in the army.

He was impressed with the uniform and discipline of the army, during those days kids were crazy to join the army which clearly shows the Naga warrior spirit, his teachers motivated him to join the army, and he was the eldest son to the family to shoulder the responsibility.

After completing his matriculation he joined the Indian Army on  May 4, 1994

BACKGROUND - KARGIL WAR.

Though the Washington Accord was signed on July 04, 1999 and Pakistani President agreed to withdraw his troops, but the infiltrators continued to hold the position on the Indian side of the LOC.

As Indian Army understood that the rats are not willing to vacate the Indian side even after the US. interference, the pest control became evident.

Indian Army with coordination of India Air Force launched Operation Vijay.

LOCATION OF ASSAULT - MUSHKOH VALLEY/ TWIN BUMP

TWIN BUMP in the point 4875 was one of such most complex position to be recaptured. This was the enemy Mortar Position and Ammunition depot which was heavily guarded. The task was not easy at all.

Pakistani Army was guarding the perimeter with some of there best commandos and soldiers as this post was there stronghold and there was a direct order from the Pakistani high command to retain the position on any cost.

Now the task was given to the Second Naga Regiment.

BRIEF - ABOUT NAGA PEOPLE

Let us know here something more about Naga's here. The Naga people are born fighter they are also known as ''THE HEADHUNTER'' as their ancestors used to keep the skull of enemies as trophies.

Their loyalty towards the motherland is unparalleled.

MAIN NARRATIVE

It was the night of July 08 when the 0task to neutralize the enemy bombardment was assigned to them.

The Naga scouts were specially roped in to lead the army during the assault. The main task of the scouts was to clear the outer perimeter of the enemy post to make the way for the assault regiment.

There was no natural cover to the scouts in the bare mountains and at the height of 15000 feet and bad weather. And the movement was tough on the hills not to get noticed by the enemy, the whole operation could be sacrificed with the single mistake of the scouts.

Sepoy Imli Akum of Naga scouts volunteered himself for the task, the task was very difficult the whole regiment knew that and it was to be done during the broad daylight.

Imliakum had two enemies one continued bombardment and another one was the nature.


DAREDEVIL ACT

As soon as the scouts reached near the mortar position, sepoy Imli started moving slowly and carefully towards the first guard position, while on the cliff small rocks fell down which alerted the enemy guard, Imli was successful in hiding himself to get noticed, the braveness with brains saved the mission.

He started his movement again steadily before the Pakistani guard could guess anything he was surprised with the Imli's attack he tried to point his gun to eliminate Imli and alert his fellow guard and soldiers, sepoy tackled him with his bare hands shut his mouth and twisted his neck the guard was dead on the spot.

But the brave heart did not stop there and moved towards the second guard, as he was aware that the task is not completed yet, the second guard could blow up their cover, he moved towards the second rat with the lightning speed and took him down bare-handed without giving him chance to retaliate.

As soon as both the guards were down the regiment stormed the mortar position and killed each and every Pakistani soldiers and commandos hiding there.

They recovered the huge amount of arms and ammunition.

The bravery of Sepoy Imliakum saved the life of many soldiers, although he was injured, he successfully accomplished impossible barehanded and without a single casualty.

AWARD

For his braveness and exemplary courage, he was awarded the MAHAVIR CHAKRA for his single-handed assault.

He is married and has two beautiful daughters.
