They get shot by BSF(Border Security Force) at other points, From that point, Terrorist gave them the name of DADI WALA FAUJ.

OPERATION PAWAN
  • The first IPKF operation was launched on 9 October 1987. Code-named Operation Pawan (Hindi for Wind), it was expected to neutralise LTTE operational capability in and around Jaffna.
  • This included the capture or neutralisation of the LTTE's chain of command which was expected to leave the rebel movement directionless in the face of the impending assault on the LTTE strongholds by the IPKF                                                .
  • On the nights of 9 and 10 October, the IPKF raided and captured the LTTE radio station at Tavadi and the TV station at Kokkuvil, while the printing presses of two LTTE-sponsored newspapers were destroyed. These operations also led to the capture of nearly 200 Tiger rebels. In retaliation, the LTTE ambushed a (CRPF) convoy near Tellipallai, killing four Jawans, as well as an IPKF post at Tellipallai with automatic weapons and mortar fire on an IPKF post. Later that day the Tigers ambushed a 10 Para Commando jeep on patrol, killing all five occupants.
( It was said that earlier deployment of special forces has not been openly accepted              by India, later on after the fall and great success of operation Pawan, this fact came              to know to the world that the success credit mainly goes to Special Forces and                      RAW.)

  • Operation Zabardust 1992- where an LTTE vessel smuggling arms and ammunition was intercepted by MARCOS personnel. LTTE members were so scared of MARCOS that even a single thought of getting caught by MARCOS, would lead to the abandonment of their operations. After the involvement of India at such a high level (including MARCOS in the operations) LTTE started operating at very small levels.
  • Two things, which led to downfall of LTTE :-

                     1. MARCOS

                     2. MARCOPHOBIA

LTTE - Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
  • On 13 December 2008 MARCOS units operating from the Indian Naval warship INS Mysore  foiled a pirate hijack attempt of Ethiopian vessel MV Gibe off the Somali coast. In the process, twenty three pirates were arrested.

  • On 16 July 2011, INS Godavari and Marine Commandos has successfully foiled a piracy attempt on a Greek ship MV Elinakos in the Gulf of Adenthe.
  • On 12 August 2013, the Indian Navy spotted an Iranian Cargo Ship Nafis-1 off course in the Arabian Sea. Surveillance continued on the ship until 14 August, when a MARCOS unit of 9 servicemen was deployed to intercept the ship via helicopter along with support from the INS Mysore. The commandos dropped onto the ship and detained the hijackers, which had reportedly sailed from Chah Bahar in Iran to an undisclosed location. Navy Intelligence reports revealed that the ship was being used to smuggle weapons and contraband. A store of automatic assault weapons was confiscated on board as well.
